About

Serene Is Learning is a website I started in high school to encourage me to keep learning about topics that interest me, especially in the scientific field.

I had just completed a research paper a few months prior in which I was introduced to a few databases that provided users with credible information about scientific and controversial topics, and I thought that it was such a cool resource that more people should utilize. I wanted to continue to use these platforms, but didn't see myself going out of my way to investigate random topics. Taking my cousin's advice, I decided to create a blog and write an article about something I'd learned each week, which not only created a nice catalogue of everything I'd researched, but kept me going, and at a consistent schedule.

For a while, I focused on climate change, but over time my focus has shifted to biology, especially genetic engineering for food security and environmental applications. For the first three years, I posted once a week, but once I transferred to a research university (UC Berkeley), I decided to switch to once a month, allowing me to increase the quality of my output and devote a little more time to lab work. All of my posts include a second section with my thoughts about what I've learned and considerations about its general field, followed by another section with my sources.

I'm so glad I started this project, as I've learned so much from it, and continue to surround myself with scientific research and advancements as a result. I've certainly improved over the years, and I intend to further hone my skills as I continue. Stay tuned to learn with me!
