EPA’s New Proposed Carbon Standards- Serene’s Synopsis 46

In May, the EPA released a set of standards they proposed to decrease carbon pollution, which will decrease future emissions and improve public health. Their guidelines were based off cost-effective control technologies and provide plenty of time for companies to plan their reactions to the regulations accordingly.

Their new gas and coal guidelines would prevent the release of an estimated 617 million tons of CO2 from 2028 to 2042, and their proposed standards for gas-fired combustion turbines would prevent the release of 214-407 million tons of CO2 through 2042. The standards will increase health benefits, preventing pollution and saving an estimated 1300 lives in 2030.

The proposed regulations could have an extremely positive impact on the future and make progress towards preventing emissions and creating requirements for corporations that put lives at stake for the sake of business.

The Clean Air Task Force included news about the EPA’s new guidelines on their website, and since I’m still learning about CATF, I wanted to see what they were paying attention to. It was also great to hear about some progress being made and rules being put in place for the sake of the future.

Apologies for such a short article today, but it’s been a long week and I’m extremely short on time. Anyways, I’ll see you next week, and stay tuned to learn with me!
