Plastic Construction Blocks – Serene’s Synopsis 16

By 2040, 710 million tons of solid plastic waste is predicted to clog Earth’s surface. ByFusion has developed a machine that turns plastic waste into a ByBlock, which is modeled after the shape and size of a cinder block, but weighs 10 pounds lighter.

Only two of the seven types of plastic can be recycled, and until 2017, other countries would buy that waste. Since then, that plastic has been burned or buried, so the Blocker System focuses on including all plastics.

In this system, plastics don’t need to be sorted or washed, and no additives or fillers are required. Additionally, it only takes minutes for the plastic to be shredded and fused into solid blocks. The manufacturing process is entirely electric, and the ByBlocks can be used in residential, commercial, and infrastructure products. ByFusion hopes to recycle 100 million tons of plastic by 2030.

Still learning about plastic!

I really enjoy hearing about all these wonderful alternatives to the waste that’s filling up our oceans and ecosystems. All this innovation makes you wonder how there’s still a mass of trash in the ocean the size of Texas, and how much worse the world would be without these novel solutions. I’m enjoying hearing about these brilliant alternatives, and I hope to find more information on other opportunities! Stay tuned to learn with me!
